    Asparagus, cooked

    Produce Description:

Asparagus dates back to about 1000 A.D. It is commonly grown in the Mediterranean and in Asia. In the early days, asparagus wa considered a delicacy, and only the wealthy could afford it. Asparagus is rich in potassium, making it great for easing muscle cramps and reducing belly fat.

Asparagus contains potassium, vitamin A and folate, all of which help reduce the signs of aging. The folate also helps prevent cancer, heart disease and birth defects.  The vitamin K in asparagus helps with bone health.  Asparagus has many B vitamins that help maintain healthy sugar levels.

Asparagus is loaded with phytonutrients, vitamins, minerals and fiber. It can also act as an antioxidant. Asparagus contains glutathione, vitamin C, vitamin A, zinc, manganese and selenium, all of which protect the body from toxins.  The folate in asparagus helps battle cancer, heart disease, and a birth defect called spina bifida. Folate helps fight bladder, breast, colon, lung, prostate and ovarian cancer, among others.
